Delicious Hot Italian Sausage Meat Stuffed Peppers
Hot sausage and peppers are a classic Italian meal. And the traditional way to eat sausage and peppers is great. But why not try a “reconstructed” version where your sausage and peppers are combined all together? It’s a classic favorite in a completely new form, and it’s super easy to make. Here’s all you have to do:
Get four large peppers (green, red, yellow and orange), a pound of Premio Hot Italian ground sausage meat, a half-cup of chopped onion, a can of diced tomatoes, two minced garlic cloves, a cup of cooked rice, two teaspoons of Italian seasoning, a cup of shredded mozzarella cheese, salt and freshly ground pepper to taste and fresh basil.
Cut off the top of the peppers and clean them out. Parboil them and drain. Sauté the sausage meat and onion in your skillet until nicely browned. Throw in garlic and continue to sauté for three minutes. Then, stir in your tomatoes and Italian seasoning and simmer for another five minutes.
Stuff the pepper with the sausage and rice mixture, place in a lightly greased muffin pan, sprinkle with mozzarella and garnish with basil. Bake at 350 degrees for about 25 to 30 minutes, and you’ve got a delicious new spin on an old classic!
