However you choose to celebrate, you want your dish to be a hit. The following recipes are excellent choices for family dinners or get-togethers.
1. Spaghetti Bolognese
Spaghetti Bolognese is about as classic as you get. Its rich, meaty flavor makes it a staple in many households, and you can add an exciting element with sausage. To make 8 servings, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat in a large pot. Add 2 finely chopped medium onions, 5 stalks of finely chopped celery, 5 finely chopped carrots and 1 minced head of garlic. Cook these vegetables for about 12 minutes until they’re tender but not browned.
Turn up the heat and add 2 pounds of ground beef with 1 package of Premio Sweet Italian Sausage Meat, breaking the meat into chunks. You can also remove sausage links from the casings if you cannot find ground sausage. Cook until the meat is browned, and then add 1 package of Premio Sweet Basil Italian Sausage. Add 2 cups of pinot grigio and let the mixture simmer until the wine evaporates. Add 3 cans of drained, hand-crushed, whole peeled tomatoes and 1 can of chicken stock. Season with salt and pepper to taste, lower the heat and let the mixture simmer until the sauce thickens.
Add 1 ½ cups of milk and simmer for 30 minutes to an hour. Prepare your spaghetti according to the package directions. Once it’s done, toss the sauce with the pasta. Garnish with fresh basil and Parmesan cheese, and serve.
2. Spaghetti Pie
This spaghetti pie recipe is extra warm and comforting. To serve 4-6 people, start by preheating your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Saute 1 large, finely chopped onion and 8 ounces of sliced mushrooms in a skillet over medium heat for 8-10 minutes until the onions are slightly browned. Add 1 orange pepper and saute for 3-5 minutes until softened. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
Remove 1 pound of Premio Sweet Italian Sausage from the casings and brown in the skillet until fully cooked. Drain the sausage and put it back in the skillet with your vegetables. Stir in 1 jar of spaghetti sauce and heat the mixture through. Line a greased casserole dish with 1 pound of cooked spaghetti noodles and pack them tight. Spread your sauce mixture over the spaghetti and top with 8 ounces of shredded mozzarella and ¼ cup of Parmesan cheese.
Place your dish in the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, until the cheese bubbles. Let it cool for a few minutes and serve.
3. Sausage Carbonara
Carbonara is another spaghetti classic. Add your unique twist with this creamy, flavorful recipe that serves up to 6 people. Boil water in a large pot and cook 1 pound of spaghetti until al dente. Remove the casings from 1 pound of Premio Sweet Italian Sausage and brown the meat in a large pan. Drain the pasta, keeping 1 tablespoon of the pasta water. Drain your sausage and keep ½ tablespoon of the drippings.
Add the sausage meat to the pasta and mix well. Then, add your pasta water and drippings. Add 5 beaten eggs and ¾ cup of grated Parmesan cheese, stirring over low heat until the eggs are just cooked. Serve immediately and enjoy.
4. Spicy Sausage Spaghetti Soup
Add some warmth to your family meal with this spicy spaghetti soup recipe. To serve 5-6 people, lightly brown 10 Premio Hot Italian Sausage links in a pot, then remove them and set aside. Lightly brown 1 cup of diced onions and remove the excess oil. Add 1 can of tomato paste, 2 cans of petite diced tomatoes, 7 cups of water and 1 teaspoon of crushed red pepper. Next, add 2 teaspoons each of oregano, salt and ground black pepper to your pot.
Once your sausages have cooled, cut them into round pieces about 1/8-inch thick. Then, slice them in half so that they resemble half moons. Add them to the pot, bring to an immediate boil and let simmer for 90 minutes.
While your mixture simmers, break ½-pound of thin spaghetti into 1 ½-inch pieces. Cook in boiling water until tender. Once your spaghetti is cooked, drain it and add it to your sausage pot. Serve and enjoy.
5. Chorizo Dinner
This spicy dinner recipe is packed with seafood, garlic and cheese. To make 8 servings, preheat your oven to 425 degrees F. Brown Premio Chorizo Sausage over medium heat for 5 minutes with 2 tablespoons of extra-virgin olive oil in an oven-safe skillet. Add 1 medium quartered and sliced onion, 5 cloves of finely chopped garlic, 3 cups of chopped cherry tomatoes, salt, pepper and 1 ½ cups of Moscato wine. Stir the mixture.
Top your mixture with 12 fresh and cleaned little-neck mussels or clams. Put the skillet in the oven for 5 minutes. Then, stir and cook again until the shells open. Boil 1 pound of spaghetti and strain. Spoon your mixture over the pasta and sprinkle grated Romano cheese over each serving. Enjoy!
