Father’s Day Lunch Ideas for the Whole Family
There’s no better way to celebrate Father’s Day than with a good meal. Whether you’re preparing a feast for your father or father figure, grandpa, brother or husband, a delicious lunch is a wonderful way to show him you care.
Of course, there will probably be other people eating, too! If you’re looking for lunch ideas for Father’s Day that can please the entire family, look no further. We’ve gathered a list of tasty options everyone can enjoy.
1. Italian Sausage Burgers
These classic Italian sausage burgers were a shoo-in to top our list of Father’s Day lunch ideas. After all, what says “dad” like burgers? Let him keep his burger supremacy by adding a new twist. The whole family will love the combination of Premio Sweet Italian Sausage, nutty spinach, creamy mozzarella and bright, herby pesto.
For these burgers, you’ll want to make the pesto first — you can even make it the night before to save time! Chop the basil and walnuts in a food processor, then set it to a steady pulse as you gradually add parmesan, garlic, olive oil, salt and pepper.
Once the pesto is a mostly smooth puree, set it aside and preheat the grill. Mix Italian sausage and breadcrumbs, divide the mixture into four equal parts and form the burger patties, adding a sprinkle of salt and pepper to each side. In a skillet, saute spinach in olive oil until it wilts, then add more oil, minced garlic, salt and pepper.
Once the grill is ready, brush the patties with olive oil before placing them on the grill. Cook the burgers to an internal temperature of at least 160 degrees Fahrenheit, adding cheese slices after you flip the patties. When you’re ready to serve, spread the pesto on the buns, add the patties and top each burger with spinach.
Light sides like a caprese salad, panzanella or grilled corn will give everyone an energy boost for the rest of the day’s activities.
2. Super Sausage Nachos
If your dad is the type who likes a little bit of everything, these super sausage nachos are sure to be a hit.
Brown a package of Premio Hot Italian Sausage in a skillet, breaking it up into small pieces as it cooks to a temperature of 160 degrees Fahrenheit. Pour off the fat and return to the stove to add water, taco seasoning and canned black or kidney beans. Stir to combine the ingredients and bring the mixture to a boil, then set the heat to low and stir occasionally as it cooks for five minutes.
Preheat the oven while the beans and sausage cook. Place Dad’s favorite tortilla chips on oven-safe plates, top them with the sausage mixture and a shredded Mexican cheese blend and place them in the oven until the cheese has melted.
Let everyone in the family load up their nachos with their favorite toppings and dig in!
3. Sausage and Nachos Burger
What’s better than giving Dad his choice of burgers or nachos on Father’s Day? Letting him have both! For dads who love a plate of nachos or an Italian sausage at a ballgame, these sausage and nacho burgers are the best of both worlds.
Start the nacho sauce by combining flour and melted butter in a saucepan and whisking in milk until the mixture thickens. Slowly whisk in shredded pepper jack cheese, salt and pepper. Once everything has melted, seasoned and combined, set the sauce aside to cool and preheat your grill.
Combine ground beef, breadcrumbs and Premio Hot Italian Sausage and shape the burger patties. Add olive oil, salt and pepper to each burger and grill them to an internal temperature of 160 degrees Fahrenheit. When the patties are finished, add them to the buns, cover them with the cheese sauce and let everyone top their burgers with salsa and crushed tortilla chips.
Round out your lunch plates with elote or sweet potato fries to knock this meal out of the park.
4. Sausage and Pepperoni Pizzadillas
If you’re looking for easy Father’s Day lunch ideas the whole family will love, try these sausage and pepperoni pizzadillas. A pizzadilla is a lunch sensation that combines your favorite pizza with the ease and speed of a quesadilla — in other words, your new favorite meal!
Start your pizzadilla with a kick with Premio Hot and Spicy Italian Chicken Sausage. Broil, pan fry or grill the links to a minimum internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit, let cool and chop into bite-sized pieces. Mix the sausage in a large bowl with pizza sauce and pepperoni pieces and set it aside.
Now that the filling is ready, it’s time to prepare the tortillas. Sprinkle mozzarella over half of each one and add the sausage mixture, then add more mozzarella on top and fold the uncovered half over. Give both sides of each pizzadilla a light coat of cooking spray before adding them to a skillet to get the tortillas to a deliciously golden brown crisp as the cheese melts. Cut your pizzadillas into triangles and serve with a simple side salad.
Want to get the whole family involved? Set up a fillings station with olives, peppers, onions and anything else you want so everyone can dress up their pizzadillas however they like!
5. BBQ’d Sweet Corn With Sausage and Roasted Red Peppers
With Father’s Day falling in the second half of June, most of us are looking for ways to make Dad a delicious meal without heating up our kitchens. That’s why this BBQ’d sweet corn with sausage and roasted red peppers, cooked entirely on the grill, makes a perfect Father’s Day lunch. Keep the oven off and enjoy the sweet, smoky taste of flame-grilled veggies and Premio Hot Italian Sausage.
Prepare the vegetables while your grill preheats. Wash and dry the peppers, coring and halving any large ones. Shuck the corn, brush it with olive oil and season it with salt, pepper and paprika.
Cook the sausages first — place them over direct or indirect heat, depending on how browned you prefer them — until their internal temperature reaches 160 degrees Fahrenheit. Remove the links when they’ve finished cooking and add the red peppers to the grill. Add the corn once the peppers have been on for a couple of minutes. Turn the veggies every few minutes, cooking the peppers until they’re charred and the corn until the kernels are golden brown.
Prepare the peppers by removing the seeds and ribs from any that you kept whole — you can remove the blackened skin before serving or let everyone handle their own. Load up platters and bowls and serve the food family style with rolls and a fresh salad. You can even brew some iced tea to toast Dad on his special day.
