Know How to Tell If Your Sausage Is Still Good
After you’ve shopped for your favorite sausage and stocked your fridge with fresh, healthy ingredients for your signature sausage dishes, you’ll want to finish off your sausage experience by making sure you cook your links properly and only use sausage that’s still fresh. How can you tell?
Before putting that sausage in your skillet or on the grill, inspect its condition. If it has a grayish color or any slimy coat, it may have gone bad. You should also smell the sausage to make sure it doesn’t have a sour aroma. Healthy uncooked sausage will be pink and smell only of the herbs inside.
When you’ve got your sausages sizzling, check them to make sure they’re cooked through before serving. Finished sausage will have an internal temperature of about 160 degrees as measured by a meat thermometer, or you can slice open the sausage to check the color and texture.
