Ingredients:
- Always cook pork sausage to a minimum internal temperature of 160° F using a meat thermometer.
- Always cook chicken sausage to a minimum internal temperature of 165° F using a meat thermometer.
How to make Premio’s Apple-Sausage Rings:
1. In a skillet over medium heat, cook Premio sausage meat according to package directions, breaking up into small pieces as it cooks. Remove and set aside.
2. In a smaller-sized mixing bowl, whisk together cooked sausage meat, flour, baking powder and salt. Set aside.
3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the yogurt and egg. Whisk until well combined.
4. Whisk together the yogurt-egg mixture and sausage-flour mixture, ensuring to combine well. Set aside.
5. Slice your apples, and using a round, small cookie cutter or knife, cut “rings” out of the middle of the apple slices.
6. In a large, deep skillet, heat the oil over medium-low heat, to approximately 375 degrees (F). Dip the apple rings into the batter and then place into the skillet, cooking in batches. Cook each batch for about 1-2 minutes per slice, or until golden brown, turning once to cook the other side.
7. In a bowl or plate, combine the sugar and cinnamon; mix thoroughly. Sprinkle mixture over the apple rings while they are still hot. Serve immediately with caramel sauce (optional).
